Besides all the amazing bands of Studentproof Jazz a lovely guest artist will be performing together with the Bigband
DENISE JANNAH -“Quite simply, Denise Jannah is one of the best jazz singers to come along in the 25 years I’ve been writing about music.” (rewarded jazz reviewer Gary Giddins in the “Village Voice”, New York).
Denise Jannah was born in Suriname, South America. With her family she moved to Holland in the mid seventies. For 4,5 years she studied Law at the University of Utrecht, but her love for music made her change her course: she enrolled into the Conservatory in Hilversum and completed her studies there, also earning her degree as a vocal educator.
Bathtub Swing Quartet
Gypsy Jazz! Bathtub Swing Quartet is a gypsy jazz band formed by two guitarists, one clarinetist and one bassist in the steamy communal showers of the Studentproof Jazz association. We bring a fresh twist to classic jazz standards, infusing our music with a contagious energy and a lively spirit that delivers a great musical experience to the audience.
Kiss my Jazz
Kiss My Jazz is a 6-piece band composed of lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass, saxophone, vocals and acoustic drums. We blend together many genres like Funk, Fusion, Soul, Blues, Rock and obviously Jazz. Our shows are filled with improvisation and funky grooves, with some heavy blues driving their sound! The band plays mostly cover material adapted to the present instruments and some originals.
Monoflow: "One flow of music". We are a funk fusion band influenced by soul and a part of Studentproof Jazz since 2022. We perform cool songs like 'Phaideux corner' by Nucleus, 'Pick up the pieces' by Candy Dulfer and 'Breezin' ' by Masayoshi Takanaka. Our music is characteristed by smooth transitions, groovy improvisations and most importantly: Lots of fun(k)!
The name is Bant, Swifterbant.
We are a group of musicians with mixed experience levels who put having fun before anything else.
We play funky arrangements of known songs like September and Funky town and even some Abba songs. If we join the party you won't be able to stop yourself from dancing!
With sayings like “Any intelligent musician can read, write and count to four!” and “The oxygen in the air is for free, you are dutch, use it!” Charles Green is leading Studentproof Bigband, the student bigband of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Split from our sister association ESMG Quadrivium in 1989 to pursue the Jazz genre, the bigband consists of around 20 students and former students with the goal of playing jazz music at a semi-professional level.
Defuse is a 3-piece instrumental fusion trio formed with just a guitarist, bassist and drummer. Defuse play a mixture of both original and cover material, inspired by artists such as John Scofield, Soulive and Guthrie Govan. Genres like jazz and funk are easily blended together with hints of progressive rock to form the sound that Defuse employs. They will offer you a show filled with groove and improvisation.
Jazzmine is a jazz septet that is part of Studentproof student jazz association and has been playing a mixture of funk, soul and jazz since 2019. You will hear a lot of Stevie Wonder in our repertoire, but also classic jazz standards like “My Funny Valentine” and “Chameleon”. There is a rhythm section consisting of drums, guitar, bass and piano, a 3-person horn section and a singer. We are always looking for new sounds and opportunities to play.
This band has been playing the blues since 2017, and their experience shows. They use popular and danceable tunes to make any party come alive. They feel most at home with the old classics of Rock n Roll but also don’t shy away from soulful grooves and swinging standards. From Elvis to Simone, Stevie Wonder and more. Hootie Tootie has got the tunes to make you jive!
Jazzal has been a part of Studentproof Jazz since 2009. In its current formation, the band aspires to be versatile in its song choices. Jazz, funk, soul, Latin music – you name it – all kinds of influences can be found in their repertoire. Their songs range from fusion arrangements like “Gone Under” and “Love Boat” to songs more widely known by everyone such as “Umbrella” and “Son of a Preacher Man”. Bringing out the best in their performances is what they strive for. The combo consists of a rhythm section, a three-man horn section, and a singer. Jazzal performs at many venues, ranging from private parties to medium audience events such as conference drinks and official events, often related to the TU/e and student community in Eindhoven.
